What is the best way to make restaurant style coffee?

Whenever we make a pot of coffee at home it always tastes very bitter and not nearly as good as coffee at say Denny’s or even McDonalds. We’ve tried all the major brands of ground coffee and several different drip coffee makers…Please help!

It sounds like your water is too cold. This is a problem with almost all home coffee machines – the boiler is too small and does not heat water sufficiently to produce quality coffee. Brewing coffee with colder water results in a sour, bad tasting cup.

There are a few high quality coffee machines that actually heat water to the correct temperature (195 to 205F). Technivorm makes some of the best. However, if you don’t want to spend $200 on a coffee machine, cheaper option is to heat water in a kettle and to use either a melitta plastic cone filter (about $4) or a french press ($20 to $30). Do be sure to let the water cool for a minute or so after boiling. Brewing coffee with water at 212F (boiling) will also produce bitter results.

Start with a clean coffee pot and cold water. Use coffee that is 100% Arabica Beans. Start with 2 1/2 standard coffee scoops. Adjust it to your taste. Brand names are not always best. Restaurants will use about 2 ounces per pot.

I worked in restaurants before. There is no difference in the way it is made, other than the coffee is freshly ground or in a air tight bag and open just before brew. The machines are set to dispense the exactly amount of water.Hot, just bellow boiling.

    But you can try this:
Use filtered water – Brita or the like. The better the water that goes in, the better the coffee that comes out.

    Maybe this will help you

buy a good coffee mashine, its very important for a good coffee. if you already have a good one, try a other kind of water.
